Objective:

  • Cooling and Heating Cycle
  • Only Cooling Cycle
  • Only Heating Cycle

What is Heat Recovery System

Heat Recovery VRF provides simultaneous cooling and heating by transferring exhaust heat (or waste heat) from a cooled zone to a zone that requires heating.

Main components of the Heat Recovery VRV system

  • Compressor
  • Branch Controller
  • Non-Return Valve
  • Reversing Valve
  • Accumulator
  • Heat Exchanger
  • Electronic expansion valve

Branch Controller

In heat-recovery systems, the branch-circuit controller can take the heat recovered from the cooling zone and use it to warm up the room in heating mode. This way, the compressor cooling or heating requirements are reduced, which saves energy.

Non-Return Valve

A non-return valve allows a medium to flow in only one direction. It is fitted to ensure that the medium flows through a pipe in the right direction, where pressure conditions may otherwise cause reversed flow.

Compressor used in Heat recovery VRV/VRF system

  • Inverter scroll compressor

The refrigerant used in VRF/VRV system

R-410A -RF systems use R-410A refrigerant as the heat-transfer fluid and the working fluid, achieving a very high energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 15 to 20 and integrated energy efficiency ratio (IEER) of 17 to 25.

R-410 C -One benefit of using R-407C at high-ambient conditions is that it operates at relatively low pressure.

Difference between a heat pump VRF system and a heat recovery VRF

The primary distinction between a heat pump and a heat recovery cycle is that a heat pump cycle will produce only one beneficial effect (i.e., heating or cooling) at a time. In contrast, a heat recovery cycle will produce both effects simultaneously.

ADVANTAGES OF HEAT RECOVERY VRV SYSTEM

  1. Simultaneously heating and cooling different spaces using the same HVAC system.
  2. Recover heat from one area and move to another space that requires additional heat, with no additional large energy expenditures required.
  3. Limited outdoor space is required for these systems. VRF heat recovery condenser units are compact, allowing for installation in areas that have less space.

DISADVANTAGES OF HEAT RECOVERY VRF/VRV SYSTEM

  1. Long refrigerant lines and many branch connections could result in refrigerant leakage.

Applications for heat recovery VRF system

  1. Historical buildings
  2. Schools
  3. Office buildings
  4. Assisted living facilities,
  5. Hotels
  6. Banks
  7. Commercial buildings
  8. Heat pump systems with heat recovery are used where simultaneous cooling and heating are a design requirement.
