OBJECTIVE OF AIR CONDITIONING

It is treating the air to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and distribution to meet the requirement of condition space by using a mechanical system.

The indoor AC unit must be installed high on the wall to ensure that cool air is distributed evenly throughout the room.

Types of Air Conditioning

  • Window Air conditioning system
  • Split Air-conditioning system
  • Centralized air-conditioning system
  • Packaged air-conditioning system

Window Air conditioning system

Window Air conditioners are one of the most commonly used and cheapest.

To install one of these units, you need the space to make a slot inside a wall, and there should also be open space behind the wall.

Window air- conditioner units are reliable and straightforward install solutions to keep room while avoiding the costly construction of a central air system.

Split (Hi Wall) Air conditioning system

A split air conditioner consists of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The outdoor unit is installed on or near the room’s exterior wall that you wish to cool. This unit houses the compressor, condenser, and expansion or capillary tubing. The sleek-looking indoor unit contains a cooling coil, a long blower, and an air filter.

Centralized Air conditioning System

  • The central air-conditioning system is suitable for a large building that requires very high air cooling, such as a cinema, hotel, hospital, supermarket, etc.
  • Central air conditioners circulate cool air through supply and return ducts.
  • Supply ducts and registers (i.e., opening in the wall, floor, and ceilings covered by grills) carry cooled air from the air conditioner to the room. This cool air becomes warmer as it circulates through the home, then through the room, and flows back to the central air conditioner through return ducts and registers.

PACKAGED AIR CONDITIONING

  • As the name implies, in the packaged air conditioners, all the critical components of the air conditioners are enclosed in a single casing like window AC. Thus the compressor, cooling coil, air handling unit, and air filter are all housed in a single case and assembled at the factory location.
  • Depending on the cooling system used in these systems, the packaged air conditioners are divided into two types: ones with water-cooled condensers and those with air-cooled condensers.
  • Packaged air conditioners are available in fixed-rated capacities of 3, 5, 7,10, and 15 tons.
  • These units are commonly used in restaurants, telephone exchanges, homes, small halls, etc.

FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR INSTALLATION OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR UNIT

  • Indoor Unit (Hi-wall)  – Indoor unit should be sited in a place where:
  • The restrictions on installation specified in the indoor unit installation drawings are met.
  • Both air intake and exhaust have a clear path of air.
  • The unit is not in the path of direct sunlight.
  • The unit is away from the source of heat or steam.
  • Cool air is circulated throughout the room.
  • Unit is at least 3 feet away from any television or radio set.
  • Install at the recommended height of 6 feet for adequate cooling.
  • The drain water connection should be made in the proper location.

Strength of wall to hold the AC- The indoor unit of split AC must be installed on a wall strong enough to control the unit’s weight.

Proper spacing between wall and AC unit: The split AC indoor unit requires at least 6 inches of free space surrounding its top and sides for good airflow.

The correct tilt angle of indoor unit- While fixing the aluminum bracket on wall make sure that the bracket is given a slight tilt angle, so that the indoor unit of split AC, when fitted is also at a slight angle to enable the unrestricted flow of the condensed water from the drain pipe.

Outdoor unit- Outdoor unit should be sited in a place where:

  • Both air intake and exhaust have a clear path of air.
  • It is not directly exposed to rain, strong winds, or direct sunlight.
  • There is no fear of combustible gas leakage.
  • The unit is at least 10 feet from any television or radio antenna.
  • Operating sound or hot airflow does not cause trouble to neighbors.

Proper Placement Of Outdoor Unit

The outdoor unit of split AC must be placed on a flat and rigid surface .this unit contains critical components of split AC like a compressor, condenser, fan motor, etc. If the team is not on a flat surface, it will vibrate excessively, leading to the breakage of copper pipes, coolant leakage, and compressor/condenser damage. Further, the vibrating unit makes lots of noise which could disturb you and your neighbors.

It should be easily approachable from the balcony, window, or surface platform for cleaning and servicing when required.

Different Types of Indoor units

  • Wall-mounted split system
  • In-ceiling cassette System
  • Ceiling-mounted cassette round flow
  • Ceiling-mounted cassette double-flow type
  • 4- way ceiling suspended type
  • Ceiling-mounted cassette corner type
  • Ceiling mounted duct type ac

Wall mounted (Hi wall) split system-

  •  It has one indoor unit and one outdoor unit.
  • The outdoor unit houses the compressor and condenser component and the indoor houses the evaporator and filter component.
